Live at Eight: The Movie, is a feature-length film covering the #1 show on National College Television in 1989, that was featured on Rolling Stone Magazine. The film shows the challenges of balancing university life alongside television production, but the importance of the relationships built and pay-off that comes with dedication. Live at Eight was a sketch comedy show on Cable 8 Productions on the Washington State University Pullman campus.

Cinematography & Visual Themes:
All of our shots are taken with either a Black Magic, Canon R5, or Canon R5C. Color grading has been one of the most fun parts; creating a vintage look with state-of-the-art cameras is a rewarding challenge!
Wide shots are an excellent way to establish a scene. Here, one of our characters is facing intense stress, as he's about to embark on producing his own show while balancing school.
Fun fact about me, I love acting in my own projects! We used a bunch of different wigs throughout the film to achieve the 1989 look.
Everyone's been late to class at least once in their life, but have you had to sprint across campus? Up the hills and through the trees at WSU?
Close-ups increase intensity & the overall feeling of the scene. Here, the technical director is anxiously alert for his commands. Ready camera 2, take camera 2.
Implementing photography principles makes it easier for the audience to follow. Their eyes are familiar with things like the rule of thirds above.
"Use this university!"
- Neal Robison, advisor for Cable 8 Productions in the 1980s.
Alongside my role as President & General Manager of Cable 8 Productions, I continued to pursue my passion for working directly in production. Oftentimes this position restricted my ability to engage with the hands-on elements of shows. The General Manager position was much more about the strategy and the communication than holding a camera. But I knew I needed to do both to feel fulfilled by my senior year.
Every Cable 8 show signs a contract for one semester, but 16-weeks isn't nearly enough time to fulfill the standard of the type of work I wanted to produce. A full-year project became a main selling point of my presidential campaign, as it emphasized the importance of taking the time to create high quality content. Our team was the first to do it.
Cable 8's staff elected me as President & General Manager in Spring 2024. As my term comes to an end, I am proud to say I fulfilled all of my campaign promises, including Live at Eight: The Movie, redesigning the set in our studio, and internally shifting the culture of the organization.
This role provided invaluable experience for me, as I enter the entertainment field. I have learned how to oversee nearly 70 employees, while writing and producing a film, and balancing three majors. 2024 and 2025 have been both the most difficult years of my life, yet the best; I got to know the adult version of myself, building the confidence in my skills and ambition to put myself out there.
I'm really proud of the number of students involved with Cable 8. This photo was at the banquet we host every semester. I coordinated the event with my Chief Financial Officer, booking the venue, creating the guest list and award system, and catering it with a wait staff. Everyone in this photo (and a few who couldn't make it) worked with Cable 8 last semester!
